Orange has just announced officially the long awaited Toshiba TG01 smartphone, with all of its specs and there’s even a hands on video below, showing the handset in action.

Toshiba TG01’s specs list includes CorePlayer, ideal for movie playing, a GPS and the main feature, a great 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU. TG01 also supports quad band GPRS/EDGE, 3G/HSDPA/HSUPA, WiFi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.0.

There’s a 3.2 megapixel camera on board, too and a big and impressive 4.1 inch WVGA 800 x 480 screen, a microSD card slot and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. Toshiba TG01 will be available in Orange UK starting tomorrow, July 10 for free and with a monthly fee of £39.15 (24 month price plan).

Keep in mind that the phone comes with an 8GB microSD card, courtesy of Orange and you also get to use a slick UI and Opera, for a better user experience.

Right now Japan is the world’s second largest economy and the third biggest Internet population, so it’s only logical that all new technologies are spawned there and immediately adopted. However, the mobile phone industry seems to be slowing down lately, making important manufacturers want to expand to other markets.

931n_nec

Unit sales have decreased dramatically (30% less last year), maybe because of the depression or maybe because of the aging population. Among the companies considering an expansion outside Japan’s borders we must mention NEC and Panasonic, who are willing to export their best phones.

In NEC’s case this is a comeback, since the company used to sell products internationally, but stopped doing so in 2006. Now, the manufacturer wants to enter the European market in Q3 or Q4 2010 and they have big plans: 1 million phones sold in the first 12 months. If the devices created by NEC look anything like the one above (NEC 931N), the European public will surely like them.

This phone comes with a rotating 3 inch touchscreen display, an 8 megapixel camera and a 54Mbps connection. Panasonic is also set to follow the same path, because of the local shrinking sales, but we haven’t seen any announcements from them yet.

Available from August with the firmware update, the revamped Meizu M8 UI can be checked out in the screenshots below and we have to say that it looks quite nice.

Turns out that QQ and Office will be included in the interface, plus a Weather app and we can only hope that the firmware update will be bug-free and solve the issues of previous software versions. This UI is certainly more finger friendly and will probably come with smooth animation and hopefully with English menus.

I’d also like to see the side scrolling multiple desktop feature included, since it’s an useful part of the UI, that might remind some of the iPhone.

Pantech Love Actually has got to be the most original phone name ever, but the new handset will also be called Pantech IM-U460K, although it will be sold under the more unusual name on the Korean market.

We’re dealing with a simple, yet elegant handset, with changeable back plates, a 3 inch WQVGA display, GSM and HSDPA support, a 3 megapixel camera and 255MB of internal memory. Pantech Love Actually measures 104.9 x 54.6 x 12mm, comes with Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, a media player, a video call camera and a microSDHC card slot.

The phone will hit the KTF carrier pretty soon, in many color versions, for a yet unknown price. Don’t forget to check out the preview video of the phone after the break.

After finding out that the beautiful and very powerful Toshiba TG01 smartphone went on sale in Japan, it seems that the handset will hit the UK next week, on July 9. The device will be launched during a special event, but its price is not known yet.

Also, we’re not sure which carrier will sell TG01, since Telefonica is selling it in Spain and O2 in Germany, so it might be O2 UK doing the honours. We remind you that Toshiba TG01 comes with a 4.1 inch WVGA touchscreen display, Toshiba’s 3D interface, HSDPA connectivity, GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera and WiFi.

The main appeal of the smartphone is its Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz CPU and the very slim case of the device (9.9mm). Palm Pre’s also coming to the UK, so it’s going to be an exciting week for British folks.

Palm Pre was a success after all, since it managed to sell over 300,000 units in June, according to Charter Equity Research analyst Ed Snyder. Considering that 120,000 units were available at the start, this number show a pretty neat performance.

Right now, Palm is able to manufacture around 15,000 units per day, in order to meet demand. We’ve heard that a WCDMA version of the Pre is coming soon, so maybe the handset will start selling like hot cakes (or the iPhone), once it goes this way.

This rumoured WCDMA version should hit Telefonica this Fall and we also expect the device to go north and hit the market via Bell, maybe tripling the number of sold units and finally competing with the iPhone.

The folks of WindowsPhoneMix have done a lovely review of Asus P835, one of the best Asus smartphones and probably the last of the pack to be branded without including Garmin in the logo. The device comes with a 3.5 inch WVGA screen and features a very neat trackball.

The reviewers claim that the screen is very sensitive and the phone’s 5 megapixel camera performs great, plus the bundled software is pretty good. We also learn that there’s a built in WiFi router on board and as far as flaws are concerned, the custom screen overlay looks nice but is kind of slow.

Asus P835’s battery is a 1100 mAh unit and, as you can see, the smartphone comes with an elegant metal body, with great build quality. There’s also a GPS on board, plus Bluetooth and WindowsPhoneMix states that the battery life is decent. On the “Cons” side, Asus Glide can’t compare to HTC TouchFlo 3D, since it has less features and is slower, while the processor is slower than the one on Asus P565.

After finding out that Palm Pre has sold over 300,000 units from its launch till now, according to analysts, word’s out that the device will be heading to the UK, where it’ll be sold by O2.

palm_pre_o2

O2 will be the exclusive carrier for this first webOS device, but it turns out that you’ll also be able to buy the phone from the local Carphone Warehouse shop, if you want to.

Next step is Canada, where the handset should hit Bell and Spain, where it’ll be available via Telefonica, if Palm decides to make a WCDMA Pre.

Skilled hacker Sargun created a new homebrew software, called PRDoom, that’s basically an open source clone of the famous FPS Doom. This clone uses SDL for rendering purpose and, as you can see in the video below the game runs perfectly on Palm Pre:

Pre’s GUI, Luna uses a framebuffer and the SDL backend used by the hacker was directfb. The smartphone’s rootfs is based on openembedded  and it has directfb, but the openembedded repositories didn’t have any versions of SDL linked with Palm’s directfb.

If this sounds like gibberish talk, you can just watch the video above, or if you’re into programming and stuff you can visit the hacker’s blog here.

This uniquely-shaped handset is called TianJi 608 and it’s not even a great phone brand knockoff, but an entirely new device, made in China. It comes with a 2.6 inch touchscreen display, dual SIM slot, a 1.3 megapixel camera and FM radio.

tianji608_1

There’s also an MP3/MP4 player on board, Bluetooth, a microSD slot and support for GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz connectivity. The handset measures 102 x 54 x 11mm, weighs 105 grams and looks very, very familiar to a Motorola concept phone we’ve seen a while back.

TianJi 608 will set you back $109, a decent price for these specs, unless you’re into the $99 iPhone 3G.
